December 02 Road tripSo last weekend, a few friends and I made the trip down to New Orleans to see the Hornets play and we had a pretty good time. We had good seats - 7th row behind the backboard - and the game itself was pretty decent. New Orleans won 109-97 and Chris Paul recorded a triple double (29 pts/16 assist/10 REB in 44 minutes). After the game, 3 of us went down to Bourbon Street for a couple hours and enjoyed a few beverages and some delicious Krystal burgers. It was a good trip and I had a lot of fun at the game. I have been wanting to go see a pro basketball game for awhile and the Hornets did not disappoint. After 13 miserable weeks of watching the Chiefs stink up the NFL, it was nice to have a winning distraction. More photos of the game can be seen here. (I had my daughter's camera, so the quality isn't all that great). July 23 Off Day I took a day off from the bike today as I had to run some errands at lunch, but I will get back to it tomorrow.

July 21 First steps...Well today I finally started a full fledged effort to become a healthier person and drop a few pounds while I am at it. I have been eating better for the past week, but today is the first day I added a healthy dose of exercise to the healthy eating thing. I rode almost 9.5 miles on my bike today and it feels pretty good. My route took me down a 4 lane stretch of Louisiana state highwy 1 past the Port of Shreveport-Bossier. I stayed in the shoulder the whole way and it was a little bumpy. Perhaps I will try my luck on the smoother road surface tomorrow. The road is wide, straight, and flat with low traffic so I should be ok.
My goals are to ride that route (or a route of similar distance) 4 times a week and keep my caloric intake under 2,000 calories a day. Hopefully I will be able to drop a few of the pounds I have put on in the past year and start feeling a little more energetic during the day. I am going to keep track of my progress in this space with the help of mapmyride.com and the trackr.eu app running on my Q9c.
